Swine Morsels
Swine Morsels XI - Oct. 01, 2006
I sat in on a great ventilation/feeder type/waterer type data analysis comparing 3580 close out groups for one company in the Midwest in finishing space (not nursery).
Swine morsels X (Harry Snelson) - Aug. 04, 2006
According to Alex Avery, Director of research and education for the Hudson Institute's Center for Global Food Issues, global food demand will double, if not triple, in the next fifty years.
Swine Morsels IX (Swine Heat Stress Swine) - Jul. 14, 2006
Heat and the swine breeding herd: Boar critical temperatures need to remain below 81 degrees F. Heat stress over that level will compromise fertility for up to 75 days!
Swine morsels VIII - Jul. 11, 2006
I have taken this from a previous farm report. Its how to get rid of barn gnats that are so pesky this time of year.
Swine Morsels VII - Mar. 08, 2006
Fellow Sioux Nationers: I have picked up a few exciting tidbits for those of us who just dont get out much and dont receive very many Christmas cards. Ill divide them amongst the next series of "Swine Morsels". Lets start with some trivia in pharmacology.
Swine Morsels VI - Jan. 28, 2006
Monte asks: Should I be feeding more in early gestation - - perhaps on farms with less than desirable totalborn numbers? ALL of my clients limit feed early to some extent and some farms are smokin'. What are your latest thoughts on this question?
Swine Morsels IV - Jan. 16, 2006
I visited a farm yesterday. LDL farm is over 13.2 totalborn and at 12.04 bornalive last 10 weeks. They weaned 10.93 piglets per litter farrowed. Piglets weighed 13.8 pounds at 18.45 average days of age.
Swine morsels III - Nov. 18, 2005
Mycoplasma control is ENTIRELY based on prevention and not treatment. Once pigs are coughing, no treatment will look good. Clinical response will be absolutely poor. We need to be IN FRONT of the clinical disease.
Swine Morsels II - Nov. 11, 2005
Objective: To determine if ractopamine HCl added to finishing pig diets during the final 21 days to market affects within-pen variation and growth performance.
