I sat in on a great ventilation/feeder type/waterer type data analysis comparing 3580 close out groups for one company in the Midwest in finishing space (not nursery). I learned the following;

  • Tunnel ventilated barns, PVC pipe tube with stainless steel troughs called a wet/dry feeder are the best.
  • If this type feeder is not used, 1 cup space per 15 pigs is optimal for production gains and conversions. We have been suggesting about one cup per 25 to 40 pigs.
  • Cups were better than nipples. This was real data with many confounders taken out of the data set.
